Mobile Surgery International has collaborated with The Krongrad Institute to produce El Cáncer de Próstata a clinically oriented web site designed for Spanish-speaking patients interested in minimally invasive prostate surgery. The new site features:
- A general summary
- Frequent Questions (from “What is PSA?” to “Can nerves be spared?”)
- Patients Speak (in which patients describe their actions and outcomes)
- Location and contact information
- An easy-to-read, downloadable brochure
Mobile Surgery International aims to preserve quality and choice as it works with patients and payers to contain cost. To do this we rely upon Centers of Excellence with Global Convenience™ (in Trinidad, Florida, Mexico, and Kansas) and on appropriate patient selection, which includes informed decision making by the patients. The education materials that we produce are intended to help patients to make such informed decisions.

Mobile Surgery International has partnered with OCA Hospital of Monterrey in Mexico for the hospital to host MSI-coordinated surgical teams. This means that MSI has expanded its capabilities into a third country in just its first few months of operation, and can now offer capabilities in the USA, Trinidad, and Mexico.
MSI is particularly pleased to have established a base of operations at a high quality institution in a Spanish speaking country that is certified by Joint Commission International.

On March 11, Mobile Surgery International and U.S. Risk Underwriters issued a joint media release about what we believe to be the first case of an American patient and his American surgeon both traveling to another country in order to carry out a successful, high quality, surgical procedure of the patient’s choice at a cost the patient could afford. The saving in the cost of the procedure made it possible for the patient to purchase a specialized cancer surgery and travel insurance policy from U.S. Risk that covered the patient against unexpected outcomes — but we’re glad to report that there weren’t any! A slide show about this case example is also available on line.

The call was urgent: a pediatrician in the Ukrainian city of Chernovitz had prostate cancer. He had no money. Could we help?
Working with the doctor’s daughter, Mobile Surgery International joined hands with the Ukranian community to raise funds. Working with the civic-minded Jackson Memorial Foundation, MSI arranged a discounted hospital rate that got the doctor what he needed: great international hospitality and great surgery. In and out of hospital in 24 hours.

Here is the doctor before discharge on the morning after surgery. On the left is his American nurse. On the right is his daughter. Now he’s on his way back to Ukraine to do what he does best: save lives.
Ay, Mamouchka!
Doctor Goes to Patient February 4, 2009

I joined a house call when I was 6. A man was having chest pain. My father woke me up and we were off. Early life lesson: doctor goes to patient.
At 21 I attended a clinic in Kenya. We delivered babies and treated cholera. At times a dentist flew in. Lesson reinforced: doctor and dentist go to patient.
I approach 50 and the lesson repeats: surgeon goes to patient. This lesson of mobility and service inspires Mobile Surgery International.
