Quality Health Management and Mobile Surgery International
Reach Agreement for Bundled Surgical Services
Domestic services available now; mobile services abroad to be explored
MINNEAPOLIS, MN and AVENTURA, FLORIDA, March 3, 2011 – Quality Health Management (QHM) and Mobile Surgery International (MSI) have reached a new agreement through which MSI will deliver transparently priced, bundled laparoscopic and joint replacement surgery service packages to QHM members. Initially, these packages will be available in South Florida.
“QHM is pleased to be able to offer access to specific, high-quality, bundled, cancer and orthopedic surgical services to its clients and their members through MSI. All services will initially be carried out by MSI at facilities in southern Florida,” said Patricia Ziomek, Principal at QHM. “MSI has demonstrated an ability to deliver these high-quality, bundled surgical services while helping its domestic and international clients to overcome economic, geographic, and cultural barriers. For our Latin clients, MSI’s abilities in Spanish are important, just as are its concierge services. We are equally interested in MSI’s proven mobile surgical model, because many of our clients, including foreign governments, cannot always send patients to the United States for major surgery. MSI’s ability to distribute quality surgery abroad represents a new and important administrative tool for us.”
MSI proved the viability of its surgeon-driven mobile surgical model in 2009, when it first sent an American prostate cancer patient and his American surgical team to Trinidad to carry out his operation. In so doing, MSI cut the overall cost for a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy by 60%, which opened the door to the preferred treatment for the patient in question.
“Patients face economic, cultural, and geographical barriers to choice and quality,” said MSI’s CEO — Arnon Krongrad, MD. “Working through administrators and brokers such as QHM allows efficient distribution of bundled surgical service packages. Our agreement with QHM simplifies logistics for patients who are in or who are willing to come to the United States. It also allows us to begin to develop bundled surgical services in the Caribbean and Latin America.”
Over the past 2 years, MSI has developed and built bundled surgical services with a focus on quality for domestic and foreign clients. Total knee replacement service, for example, includes highly experienced specialists, US FDA-approved implants, and aggressive one-on-one physical therapy.
